What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda (the science of life) is the 5,000 year old healing tradition of India. It is founded on the principle that health

is more than the absence of disease but rather a dynamic integrated state of balance in body, mind and spirit.

It uses special foods, seasonal lifestyle tips, massage, yoga and herbal remedies as part of its regime to help you stay optimally healthy

Ayurveda encourages us to seek experiences that are harmonising to our senses.

Through Ayurvedic practices, (explained in a consultation, in the yoga classes or on the retreats).

we can learn to minimise toxic input and maximise nourishing experiences into our bodies and mind.

By doing this we can learn to enhance our ability to create health and happiness in our lives and for those around us.

Ayurvedic Consultations

We now offer Ayurvedic consultations

Ayurevda believes everything in the universe is made up of 5 elements ; ether, air, fire, water and earth.
In the body these elements become biological elements and are grouped into 3 doshas

- Pitta, Kapha or Vata. Together they are responsible for everything that happens to us.

In the consultation you will learn about your dosha, or body type.
By learning to understand these body types you can then learn how to balance all aspects of your life.

Ayurvedic Products

According to Ayurveda our bodies are woven from food. Every day we require essential nutrients to maintain the delicate and vital balance in our bodies. In addition to a balanced and wholesome diet Ayurveda also recommends an elite group of rejuvenating herbs known as Rasayanas, these powerful herbs help people tap into the healing power of nature as they have potent antioxidants, anti–aging and immune supporting properties.

We now stock Ayurvedic products - please see the shop page for just some of the products available. We are suppliers of Pukka herbs and supplements.

Perfect Health and Yoga Retreat

After spending years bringing up three young children, I decided it was time for some ‘me’ time. I started coming to Anne-Marie’s pilates

classes after a friend recommended them and soon I felt much better, with significantly improved flexibility and core strength ( I couldn’t do sit ups or press ups!)

Then I thought I would just try a yoga lesson and found that for the breathing alone I wanted to continue. I began coming once a week to pilates and yoga, finding that I really missed it if I wasn’t able to come each week.

Then when the opportunity to attend the Perfect Health course came up I started to learn how I could improve my overall health. First we learnt our doshas, then we found out how we could best nourish them using Ayervedic food and practices. Gradually over the course I introduced more and more things which now I include on a regular basis.

The most interesting thing is that I came in search of an exercise class, but have found so much more...

Now my alarm is set 30 mins earlier than usual and I meditate for 15 to 20 minutes almost every day, before the children wake and attend the meditatio session in the studio on Wednesday.

I also use a Netti pot to wash my nose using warm salt water, which doesn’t sound very appealing! but I find it gives me clearness and eases my breathing, it also results in more energy through the day, which Is why I continue to do it! Next I dry brush my skin with a brush, before massaging myself with oil, leaving it to soak in before showering. The benefits to my skin have been amazing.

I used to suffer from psoriasis and this has almost completely disappeared. I also find that I have much more energy and focus during the day.

When I heard about the weekend yoga retreat I knew I wanted to come, and I was not disappointed. From our arrival on the Friday evening, we met with a lovely group of people who had all come for different reasons. The weekend started with meditations, gentle yoga, and a delicious Ayervedic meal.

On the Saturday and Sunday mornings we began early and the days provided us with time and space to really think and be at peace. All of us were at different levels with our practice, but that really did not matter and the overall feeling I left with on the Sunday evening was one of peace and calm. The meditations in particular were really powerful, particularly enabling me to see coloured lights of the chakras. These do not always appear and sometimes they are much more vivid than others, but I now accept that they come when they do, and they appear more readily, sometimes enveloping me in amazing wave of patterns and changing colours.

The food during the retreat was Ayervedic and delicious, and on a couple of occasions we ate in silence, allowing us to really taste the food. We had a programme which balanced yoga, meditation, and even had a Theta Healing session, some time in nature and some Tai Chi. All in all it was a weekend which has had positive and lasting effects...

On the Sunday night I slept better than I have done for years. Since the retreat this has continued and I have naturally been drawn towards foods and drinks which are good to me, rather than having to make a really conscious effort.During the retreat I discovered that my doshas are becoming more balanced and this doesn’t surprise me because I feel much better in myself, less stressed and far more confident. It has also improved my creativity and I have so many ideas I need to develop now. I am just beginning to sell my jewellery and am in the process of getting my own makers mark for hallmarking, so I feel very positive, energised and excited about this
